A musher and his team climb a snow-covered slope during the 100-mile stretch of the American Dog Derby near Ashton, Idaho. The oldest All-American Dog Sled Race that began in 1917 is an exciting event rich in history that offers five different races, including a celebrity race, a snowshoe race, and a weight pull in which spectators and their dogs can compete. For this Uncharted story on the American Dog Derby, I needed to find a place on the race course that could show that a sled dog race was taking place and I also needed to show where it was happening. Scouting out some areas on the course map in advance paid off when we found this scene with the Teton Mountains in the background.
